FoxyTag on EF81

Postby Seraph » Fri Dec 29, 2006 7:27 pm

Hi,

iam using the mobile BenqSiemens EF81.

Always if i want to run FoxyTag, i cant. Only after installation it work only one time. i tried the Versions 0.4.2, 0.4.1, 0.4.0.

On 0.4.2 i can see the language Menü, but i cant choose anything.

If i want to restart FoxyTag, i will get a white screen and then i enter the programms folder.

Sorry for my bad english.

I'll tell my problem again in german.

So.

If you cant understand my english, please say it, i will try to explane it again.

gruß xee

BenqSiemens EF81

Postby Munja » Wed Jan 31, 2007 11:39 am

Hello,

it will be dificult to tell with precision...

Good news is that your mobile phone has java version compatible with FoxyTag. It should work but i don't have this model to try personaly FoxyTag on it.

Now, i think that it must be a question of firmware or another phone's configuration.

I don't have "ready solution" for this problem we must try to fix it together.

You should try a few tests and give me detailed answers if possible.

First tests:
1. Try to install FoxyTag by WAP and run it just after
2. Try to install FoxyTag by Bluetooth and run it after
3. Try the same procedure with FoxyTest
4. Try to install another java application you can find a bunch of them here: http://www.getjar.com

For that i'll need more details:

- first time it is possible to run FoxyTag but you can't choose de language?
- next time it is not possible to run FoxyTag at all?
- did you try to install FoxyTag by WAP and by Bluetooth? is there any difference when you run FoxyTag application installed by WAP or installed by Bluetooth?
- finaly the question of FoxyTest: did you try to run it on your mobile phone? I know that FoxyTest is used on BenqSiemens EF81, but can you tell me if you have the same problem as with FoxyTag?
- what is result if you run any other java application?

I sow somme Nokia mobile phones, you can download java application from WAP and it work once but you can't save it and re-use another time. It is the problem of firmware or telecom branding and in that case we can not help :(

If there is a difference when you install one java application or another, one work and another not there is still hope :D

In that case we can modify FoxyTag to run on your mobile phone.

Try to do this tests and answer this questions.

I waith for your answer

Hi,
thanks for answer :) Okay..

Now, i think that it must be a question of firmware or another phone's configuration.

I tried this firmware versions: FW28, FW48, FW52, FW58. Always the same..

1. Try to install FoxyTag by WAP and run it just after

Okay. I downloaded it.
Now iam on the menu "Select language".
I scroll down to "deutsch". i want to enter... i cant use any key.

2. Try to install FoxyTag by Bluetooth and run it after

It isnt possible to install it about bluetooth. i installed it with data cable, too. The same like 1.

3. Try the same procedure with FoxyTest

it works correctly. i can download, choose language, test says okay.
i can restart the program many times. it is working correctly

4. Try to install another java application you can find a bunch of them here: http://www.getjar.com

i did: installed opera mini, jimm, jmirc. There are no problems on this apps.

- first time it is possible to run FoxyTag but you can't choose de language?

thats true

- next time it is not possible to run FoxyTag at all?

if i want to restart, i will get shortly a white screen. then i see my apps folder again.

- did you try to install FoxyTag by WAP and by Bluetooth? is there any difference when you run FoxyTag application installed by WAP or installed by Bluetooth?

With WAP(GPRS) and Datacable. It doesnt matter. nothing works.

- finaly the question of FoxyTest: did you try to run it on your mobile phone? I know that FoxyTest is used on BenqSiemens EF81, but can you tell me if you have the same problem as with FoxyTag?

Foxytag is working 100%. I can start (and restart), and try the test. The test says okay.

- finaly the question of FoxyTest: did you try to run it on your mobile phone? I know that FoxyTest is used on BenqSiemens EF81, but can you tell me if you have the same problem as with FoxyTag?

All another Java apps are working correctly.

I tried the version 0.4 of Foxytag. It works a little bit. i can choose english and connect to my gps adapter (is called gps mouse??). and i can restart the app without problems. but, i didnt get a radar like on the screenshots. and the words are unreadable.

i made a example (i cant get screenshots of my display..):

FoxyTag on EF81

Postby Munja » Thu Feb 01, 2007 12:40 am

Hello,

thanks for detailed tests !

The problem is coming from FoxyTag certainly. I think you should reboot the phone if you can not re-open FoxyTag.

But it will not make it work :-(

Version 0.4 shows that the problem is in protocol between FoxyTag and your GPS.

In short FoxyTag is waithing for speed for example 60km/h and it is receiving "Hello" from GPS.

For that reason you can't read GPS datas.

I'll first see with Foxy if we can send you a new module for next FoxyTag version.

It has better bluetooth conectivity and it is not completely FoxyTag but just a part that manage GPS connection. It also read better "friendly names" of bluetooth devices like this you will not have bluetooth mouse on the screen :D
It will only be integrated in next FoxyTag.

If that works you can be shoure that the next FoxyTag will work well with your phone and GPS.

If not we can also try to integrate a new protocole for communication with your GPS (if it is possible).

If Foxy agreeds i'll send you the test module in personal message.

Thanks for your patience

Hi,

I've almost forgotten: what GPS-Bluetooth device you are using?

I agree.
Seraph, send us a mail to foxytag (@cui.unige.ch), so we list you as a beta tester, if you would like. So you will soon have a working version for your mobile.
Please, send also a PM to Munja with your email, so that he can start the debug session with you.
