Update cameradatabase with RSS?

Postby zilexa » Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:52 am

Hi there,

In Holland there are numerous sites that provide mobilecamera locations by RSS feed. Could it be possible to dynamically update Foxytags camera database using this feed? I am sure there are more countries with sites (newssites, fm radio websites) that provide the same info by their RSS feed.

FoxyTag camera database is already updated by its users. Information provided by RSS is usually not completely free, which means that we are not allowed to take their data in order to feed our own community. However, if you know about open and free speed camera data sources, then do not hesitate to give us the address!

Hi sorry for late reply!

This is the best resource for realtime mobile camera locations in Holland:
http://www.bnr.nl/nl-nu/flitsers/

I consider it "the best" because most people call or sms to this radio station and provide up to date info about the mobile camera locations AND they also call/sms to inform the radio the mobile camera has been removed after a few hours.

It's by far the most popular resource. It's freely available and there is also a WAP/Mobile version of the site:

http://www.bnr.nl/mobile/flitser/
It's probably a lot easier to fetch the info from this link.

2nd best:
flitsservice.nl (click on "Flitsers & Files")
the wap/mobile version: http://wap.flitsservice.com/wap.aspx
wap/mobile version viewable in normal browsers: http://imode.flitsservice.com/imode2.aspx

or another alternative:
http://www.flitsers.nl/

Not sure if it is allowed to use the data. On the flitsservice.nl site, they specifically mention you can use this link to view speedcamera locations on your own website:
http://flitsservice.com/flitsservice/me ... /link.aspx

But if I click that link it simply brings me to the homepage of this website..

I really hope this is useful.

For the fixed camera's (speed & redlight) there is an excellent site for Netherlands/Benelux providing POIs for all navigation systems:
http://flitspaal.nl

Goal of that site is that you can download the POI file in the specific format suitable for your navigation system (like navman, tomtom, garmin and the common format is CSV) and upload it to your navigation device.
So this data is free for everyone.

Yes, everyone can use this data, but this doesn't mean that we can provide this data. The only solution would be to have their agreement or to adapt the application so that everyone can add data from another source. I will study booth possibilities.
